Volunteer Training Day

On a gorgeous day in the middle of June, Police Legacy volunteers from around the state descended upon Marine Area Command in Balmain for the first of two annual Volunteer Training Days. Our dedicated volunteers work right across New South Wales supporting our beneficiaries, and the day was designed to bring them together and give them a chance to connect, and to see how their work fits into the bigger picture of what we do.

The formal sessions for the day included discussions of the Local Area Lunches/Networks; the importance of marketing and fundraising; our BACKUP for Life program; Child Protection issues; and taking care of yourself as a volunteer. The National Centre for Childhood Grief ran a fantastic workshop on providing meaningful and appropriate support after a death, and the group also enjoyed a break at lunch time for a tour of one of the police boats.

Our volunteers are absolutely essential to what we do, and it seemed only fitting that we showed our appreciation in some small way after an intense day of learning and connection with a celebratory dinner at Our Place restaurant. The next Training Day will take place in October. Keep an eye out for updates!
