Scholarships Update Dec 2021

December 2021

Commissioner’s Scholarship

Every year the Commissioner awards three $2,000 scholarships to Police Legatees after the National Police Remembrance Day Ceremony at The Domain. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, he has not been able to do this in person for the last two years, but he continues to support the award.

The three lucky and very deserving recipients this year were Jack Goodwin, Carl Vandergraaf and Lucia McCann. All the legatees were surprised when they were notified, but grateful for the opportunity the scholarship offers.

Morgan Hill Scholarship

Endowed through the generosity of monies raised through the annual Remembrance Bike Ride, this scholarship has been set up in memory of Constable Morgan Hill, a young Police Officer who died in 2009. In recognition of Morgan’s love of computer science, the scholarship is awarded to those requiring I.T equipment for their educational endeavours, granted in the form of two scholarships of $1,000.

The Hill family found it very difficult to choose who would be the lucky recipients this year, as we received a record number of applications. Each one of the Police Legatees was most deserving, but after much debate the two legatees chosen were Clair Bryant and Patrick Richardson. Both Clair and Patrick are in Year 7, and the IT Scholarship will help them both with their studies.
