From the Chair: September 2020

September 2020

I am sure by now we all agree the only thing certain in 2020 is change, as we have been required to change our plans on a daily basis. When Covid-19 first hit us hard in March this year we thought by July we would be well and truly back to normal. But as we now know we are all looking at a new normal. You can rest assured though, the NSW Police Legacy Team is still here to support everyone – although the new support may look a little different with virtual instead of real flowers. We are still there for you.

To help us in this role we welcome Nicole Hawick to our team. Nicole will be joining our Community Support Team, particularly supporting our more mature Police Legatees. With Nicole in this role it will allow Leisa to focus more on the younger (0-25 year old) legatees, providing them all with support and access to our services.

I would also like to welcome to the NSW Police Legacy Board Sergeant Craig Partridge, who was elected as the Vice Chair after our Annual General Meeting, and Assistant Commissioner Scott Whyte, who is our new Commissioner’s Representative on the Board. I also thank Mark Hutchings for his support over the last three years on the Board representing the Commissioner. Mark was a valuable member of our board and added great value from his extensive policing and community experience.

As you would expect, NSW Police Legacy has been strictly adhering to the government’s health warnings and advice and we have now become an accredited COVID-Safe Organisation. All persons attending our office will receive a free temperature check and hand sanitising. By adhering to all government advice and developing COVID safety plans, we hope to be able to recommence our social activities and functions. But as I said at the start, we have to be prepared for change. If we learn to accept this unpredictable environment I am sure our resilience will grow and we will learn to adapt to anything.

And finally, please remember that if you need a hand to help get through these weird and unpredictable times, please reach out. We will be there for you.
