BACKUP for Life: March 2021

March 2021

All good things must come to an end! And with the BACKUP for Life project finishing as of 30 June 2021 it is time for me to move onto new and exciting career challenges and sadly say goodbye to Police Legacy.

I am excited to be moving into my new position as Program Development Manager for the new live-in 4-week Healing Trauma Program with the Quest for Life Foundation as of March 2021. This new role will allow me to continue my passion for working not only with police affected by trauma but in a broader sense across the community. I’m sure there will be many ongoing connections with Police Legacy, so although I am saying goodbye, I look forward to maintaining the many connections I’ve made over the past four years.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to the Police Legacy Management and Team, especially to Richard Mills and Ernst Meyer, Board Members, Sub Committee, Mentors, Volunteers, NSW Police Force, PANSW, RFPA, Program facilitators, Consultants, and Stakeholders who have contributed in their individual and unique ways to make the project such a success.

I feel honoured and blessed to have been tasked with developing and guiding such a ground-breaking and innovative project which has assisted our police family to move on with their lives, and into new and exciting career paths, with the benefit of good health and happiness. And as the project grew so too did many friendships and collaborations, and for that I am truly thankful. Finally, I wanted to say thank you to our police family both transitioning, former, and their immediate families, for trusting in my judgement and engaging in the suite of services we have on offer. Without that trust we could not have made such a difference to the lives of so many.

Leading up to the project’s end there is still time to engage in the many programs and support services, so keep an eye on the Police Legacy website for workshops planned between now and June 30, which include Holistic Health and Wellbeing, Career Confidence and Beyond the Badge Career Transition.

Best wishes to all,

Esther Mckay
