Sadly, our new year commenced with the loss of Sergeant Peter Stone of Blue Mountains Police Area Command. Vale Sergeant Stone, and thank you for all you have done to keep our community safe.

Leaving without a single last-minute change of plans for the first time in three years (not a flood, not a fire, not a lockdown to be seen), our Police Legatee kids got away to the January Adventure Camp without a hitch. There wasn’t even a flight delay to hold up our 36 young people getting to the recreation centre in Broken Bay.

After a mountainous pause for Covid, the Kokoda Trek is back, and our intrepid trekkers are ready to make the pilgrimage! From 13-26 April, a small group of Police Legatees and others from the Police Family will be walking the historic track through the mountains of Papua New Guinea.

On 21 January 2023, Chair Det Supt Donna McCarthy APM attended the funeral of Elaine Chapman OAM at the Macquarie Crematorium. Elaine was 85 years old, and was the very first of the group we lovingly refer to as “The Bear Ladies”.

At the end of October, the third 18-25 Camp was held, and if the response of the attendees is anything to go by, this event is locked into place in the Police Legatee calendar!
