National Police Legacy Day

17 June 2025

We’re thrilled to have you with us for the start of a new tradition: 17 June 2025 will be the first National Police Legacy Day. Police Legacies have been supporting Police Families across Australia for 54 years, and now we are coming together nationally to honour this legacy of care. On 17 June this year - and all years going forward - we will honour all police who serve our community, and the families who uphold their memory with strength and pride.

On 21 January 2023, Chair Det Supt Donna McCarthy APM attended the funeral of Elaine Chapman OAM at the Macquarie Crematorium. Elaine was 85 years old, and was the very first of the group we lovingly refer to as “The Bear Ladies”.

September, October, and November have flown by! Slowly but surely we have returned to maskless gatherings and normal hugs. Importantly, National Police Remembrance Day was held at the Domain, Sydney, on 29 September. Our Police Legatees, their families, police, and honoured guests, including our Patron the Governor of NSW Her Excellency the Hon Margaret Beazley AC KC, and members of the community, braved the stormy day to gather and remember.

Farewell from the COO

I have recently resigned from my role as Chief Operating Officer to take up a new position at TAFE NSW. Having spent most of my working life in the Police Family it has not been an easy decision.
