December 2022
At the end of October, the third 18-25 Camp was held, and if the response of the attendees is anything to go by, this event is locked into place in the Police Legatee calendar!
The camp was held at the Hunter Valley Retreat, where on the Friday night the 16 young adults – 13 from NSW Police Legacy and 3 from AFP Legacy – were received with an acknowledgment of Country from Indigenous Elder Uncle Rikijon Powell, who also started the campfire in a ceremonial gesture.
Saturday was packed full of activities, starting with go-karting at the local circuit, where our Chair Donna McCarthy jumped in to show off her HWP credentials. (Was the Blue Beaten? We couldn’t possibly say...) Following that there was lunch at a local pub, and cheese, chocolate, and vodka tasting out in the local region, followed by a mindfulness drumming session back at the campsite. (Followed by Uno for those still up for a little nostalgic throwback to kids’ camp!)
After breakfast on Sunday morning, fond farewells were said, with everybody agreeing that there just wasn’t enough time to hang out and be with each other. We love how much our young Legatees love to be a part of this family!
